Best Catholic Schools in OakvilleThe Catholic school rankings in Oakville are very strong overall. I have done much research in the area of Oakville Catholic schools in order to give the most value possible for my young-family clients wishing to move there. The LATEST school rankings are available to my clients starting each November, and then are released to the general public in January.

The Catholic school rankings in Oakville are dominated by the schools that have a low percentage of ESL students. That’s not surprising, really, since (according to published EQAO reports) EVERY Catholic school in Oakville has low percentages of ESL students! And it is my opinion (supported by academic papers here) that having a low percentage of ESL students in the classroom can generally make it easier for teachers to properly educate all the students in the classrooom, since higher ESL percentages have been shown to produce lower test scores, generally.

Another trend with Catholic schools in Oakville is that those with the greatest EQAO pass-rates all seem to be in areas where the average household-income allows those families to live quite comfortably.

There are currently 16 Catholic elementary schools in Oakville, and I have ranked them all. Contrary to the public schools, though, the Catholic board has fewer French Immersion options. Two schools in Oakville offer it (St. Mary’s & St. Marguerite). The public board offers a substantial amount more, and are excellent, so if French Immersion is for your child, I would definitely check out public schooling.

About the Oakville School Rankings

On our website, we have school rankings for:
Mississauga and Brampton
Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Georgetown and Hamilton
Etobicoke and the West End/High Park area
Vaughan, Markham, and Richmond Hill

The rankings here are the amalgamation of two separate reports we have compiled: SUSI’s 7-year EQAO Rankings and SUSI’s Potency Rankings.

SUSI’s 7-year EQAO Rankings are mostly self-explanatory. In order to measure the consistency of a school’s performance, we compiled the scores from the last 7 years of EQAO scores for each of Oakville’s Catholic schools. The more recent the year, the more weight that year’s EQAO scores were given.

SUSI’s Potency Rankings attempt to measure how well a school’s principals and teachers are performing vis-a-vis how well they are EXPECTED to perform, given their district’s socio-economic lot. In other words, schools in districts that have parents with a higher-than-average income and education level, and that have less ESL students and single parents, are EXPECTED to perform better than their less-fortunate counterparts. If a school isn’t performing up to expectation, that should be noted. Likewise, if a school is performing well ABOVE expectation, that should also not just be noted, but congratulated!

Oakville School RankingsThe combination of these two studies (along with a “consistency factor”) provide us with the crucial information we need to help young families find the best Oakville Catholic school district for them to live in. We publish our opinion of the Top 5 Catholic Elementary Schools in Oakville a couple months after we determine them for ourselves – but of course the full version of the latest rankings are always available for counsel towards our current home-seeking clients.

If you’re looking to buy a home in Oakville, we’d be happy to help and to protect your family. 🙂
